A concise definition of optimism is the tendency to have hope and confidence about future outcomes. Working in health care, education and biomedical research, we are trained to notice problems and create positive solutions. Expert opinions on the timing of future developments in artificial intelligence (AI) vary widely, with some expecting human-level AI in the next few decades. Humanity is certainly doing something wrong.
